Is Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy Right for You?

Have you ever heard of pulsed electromagnetic therapy before? If you haven't you are not alone, it seems most people haven't. I certainly hadn't heard of it before coming to work at Schneider Family Chiropractic in Grand Rapids, which is too bad because it truly is a remarkable technology that has been helping heal people and animals for decades.

What is Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy?

Pulsed electromagnetic therapy, PMT for short, is a therapeutic device that works to strengthen cells and promote their healthy development and reproduction. It is among the most advanced therapies available today for treating injuries as well as chronic pain. PMT was first used in the U.S. in the early 1970's to heal broken legs in racehorses and is now regularly used to treat human injuries and complaints.

How does it work?

PMT works for your cells in a way similar to how physical exercise works for your muscles. This is called pulsed electromagnetic field cellular exercise. PMT uses a low frequency magnetic field to stimulate your cells, exercising them by flooding them with energy causing them to expand and contract, thereby strengthening the cell its self.

Think of your cells as batteries each one holds its own electric charge. When your cells are in a state of low energy they are considered weak and do not function optimally. Stimulation from the PMT device turns these low energy cells into high energy cells. Replenishing the energy to these cells promotes faster healing as well as pain relief because high energy cells function better.

What are the benefits?

When a cell is high energy it is considered strong. Strong cells grow, repair, and replicate themselves more effectively and efficiently than weak cells. Strong cellular function has benefits beyond improving your body’s natural healing abilities including:

  • better sleep
  • lower inflammation
  • more energy
  • pain reduction
  • stress relief
